Paper Abstract:      The relevance of collaboration for the teaching and learning process has long been established and defended by authors like Piaget or Vygostky. The different implications of group work in the language classroom motivated us for the present article and presentation. Both result from our research on Distance Collaborative Writing in English as a Foreign Language in Higher Education. We will present some research conclusions on students’ representations of group work and their opinions on the strengths and weaknesses of collaborative work. Some suggestions on factors that contribute towards the success of collaboration in the foreign language classroom will also be put forward.
